Environmental Week Kicks Off at the Fish Farming and Technology Institute – Suez Canal University
The activities of Environmental Week officially launched at the Fish Farming and Technology Institute at Suez Canal University on Sunday, April 20, 2025. The event is held under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Nasser Mandour, President of the University, with the general supervision of Prof. Dr. Dina Abu Al-Maati, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Prof. Dr. Mohamed El-Tabie Ali, Dean of the Institute. The executive supervision is led by Prof. Dr. Mervat Ali Mohamed, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development.
The week includes a variety of activities and seminars aimed at promoting environmental awareness and highlighting the role of fish farming in supporting food security and achieving sustainable development. The initiative reflects the university's commitment to integrating academic disciplines with the service of the local community and the environment.
As part of the program, the Institute welcomed a field visit from El-Shaheed Abdelsalam Aref Primary School, where students toured the hatchery and rearing units and learned about the Institute's operations—from the early stages of fish hatching to full aquaculture practices.
In addition, the Institute organized an educational seminar presented by Dr. Aya Arafat, Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Food and Nutrition. The seminar covered various fish species, their nutritional value, and their critical role in supporting food security in Egypt. It also shed light on the significance of the aquaculture sector in community and economic development.
