About Department

Overview

Overpopulation can lead to food demand increase. Protein is considered a mandatory food element to build a healthy body that produces in society. Fish protein is the cheapest protein type and contributes effectively to meeting protein demand and supporting healthy nutrition.

Intensive and semi-intensive fish farming systems contribute effectively to the quantity of fish production at the national level. The development of these farming systems, therefore, requires the development of nutrition management for the various ages and fisheries to reach the highest quantitative and qualitative production of fish with profitable economies under the State's Sustainable Development Plan.

Growing national fishery projects require appropriate quantities of fish bonds and the consequent decrease in the availability of essential fodder ingredients and increased import of those ores, which requires scientific research that finds effective and economic food alternatives.

Both applied and basic scientific research leads to the desired productive development of water investment in the present time and increases the production cap in the future.

The Department of Food and Nutrition aims to conduct practical and basic scientific research. The department aims to prepare a graduate fully aware of fish farming's different systems, fish feeding methods, how to prepare forages including moderate protein percentage matching each fish category and correct preserving methods.

In addition, the department qualifies students who can advance the fish production sector in Egypt through the execution of theoretical and field programs on local and international levels. Moreover, preparing scientific cadres and local expertise can handle scientific research and production in the fish production sector in Egypt. The department executes multiple theoretical and field training programs locally and internationally.

These plans and objectives lead to the building of the necessary houses of expertise for research and applied development to bring about the fish sector's productive and economic development with a view to achieving sustainable development.

The department offers the study of aquaculture nutrition basics, forage formation, and production and preservation methods of fish forages. Besides presenting metabolism, aquaculture digestive systems, and different fish farming systems. In addition, breeding different kinds of fish (freshwater fish or saltwater fish).
